Lovely Flower Stalls:

Lovely Flower Stalls, Electric Flower, Contrasting Flower ShapesOne restaurant of a more modest nature needs mention. It is oddl' and Gallicly named Degustasyon, yet the place is distinctly Italian. It pasta dishes are deliciously cooked and one can get a really good meal hen for a very small outlay. It is on Istiklal Caddesi, a few doors south of Hote Konak, and several of its side windows look out on lovely flower stalls in i shopping arcade.

There need be no question in your mind about the market for good flower photography. One of the big slide film distributors has found flower fanciers the most consistent buy ers of all among slide collectors, even though the pictures offered are strictly of specimen flowers. These cannot possibly have the same appeal as pictures of flowers grown by the buyer in his own soil. The only flower fancier who is not an eager prospect for pictures of his blooms is one who has never seen a color slide transparency of a beautiful flower projected. A close-up of a lovely flower on a screen is a sight to make anyone, flower lover or not, gasp at its beauty.

See Also Electric Flower:

In the Amsterdam orbit, see: Volendam and Marken, of course; Aalsmeer (electric flower auction); Alkmaar (Friday morning cheese market); and Haarlem (Frans Hals Museum). The heart of Holland's tulip belt is a strip of polychrome glory just south of Haarlem. It runs from Bennebroek through Hillegom and Lisse to Sassenheim.

Botanical gardens will be found at Zurich, Basel, Geneva and St. Gall; a special garden of tropical plants is maintained on the Brissago Islands, in Lake Maggiore, almost at the Italian frontier; and Alpine flower gardens of interest are at Sckynige Platte, near Interlaken, and at Rochers-de-Naye, a mountain resort nearly 6000 feet above sea level, reached by an electric mountain railway, in one hour, from Montreux.

On The Other Hand See Contrasting Flower Shapes:

THE USE of different shapes and patterns is perhaps the single most important element in designing a garden. In a really good garden, the shape and pattern of every component, from the broad outline of a path or lawn to the details such as the contrasting shapes of miniature shrubs in a particular stone trough, will have been thoroughly thought out. Shapes introduce movement, balance and punctuation to a garden design. Movement can come from the repeated use of upright shapes like arches, which takes the eye away into the distance. The effect will work either in a formal symmetrical context or in a more informal zigzag fashion. Balance will help the garden to look restful to the eye: a dramatic upright shape can be countered by an adjoining low mound, and the two can be held together by some horizontal shapes.

When composing your planting scheme, choose plants with contrasting flower shapes. Masses of tiny blooms, such as sweet alyssum and trailing lobelia, create a hazy effect softening the edges and hiding the container. They contrast well with the larger plants that form the main focus of the container.
