Floating Gardens: As a result, both J. H. Pratt and G. B. Airy (1801-92) proposed that the continents consisted of lighter material floating gardens on a denser substratum [5]. Pratt believed that the different heights of mountains were due to blocks of different densities floating gardens at the same base level, while Airy thought the heights were due to blocks of different thickness and of the same density floating gardens at different depths. Today, Airy's hypothesis is generally accepted.
6. Palaces and Gardens Denmark's castles form a very notable company. They mostly date from the 16th century and are almost invariably surrounded by beautiful parks and gardens. In the capital there are Rosenborg and Frederiksberg, supplemented gardenwise by the Royal Horticultural Gardens and the city's splendidly landscaped Botanical Gardens. Other castles in Zealand are Hiller0d's Frederiksborg (already mentioned), not to be confused with Frederiksfcerg, and Naestved's Gis-selfeld, while beyond the confines of Zealand at least seven leap up in the mind to be counted.See Also Garden Waterfalls:Steep slopes can be used for streams or waterfalls but to maximize on planting space you can terrace the slope using either retaining walls or sloped sod. Groups of Mediterranean-type plants like lavender and santolina will thrive on sunny slopes, where drainage will be quick and efficient. These are also the exact conditions for a scree garden waterfalls (see Glossary), which will be more interesting to look at than a single planting. Cold, shady slopes make good woodland garden waterfallss, but will equally make an ideal site for a terraced alpine garden waterfalls because they are naturally well drained, fully exposed to light, but without the drying heat found on a sunny slope.
What you decide on also depends on the relationship of the slope to the house. A garden waterfalls that slopes up from the house is far more dominant than one that slopes away. Sites that slope away from the house are less.
IF YOU have a natural stream or spring in your garden waterfalls, you're one of the fortunate ones. Most of us aren't that lucky and we have to start from scratch. However, the range of equipment and ready-made accessories for the new pond owner is wide indeed. Electrical pumps, underwater Lighting and a wide variety of styles and designs of fountains are easy to find.
Waterfalls and fountains can be added to ponds to provide extra interest, and a variety of water plants and fish can make them fascinating features.
